VB X MNG

I’ve always been a fan of Victoria Beckham. If ever I was going to be a Spice, I’d be Posh, no questions asked. LBD – check, high heels – why not? Bob – I could make it happen… Let’s be real, the Spice Girls remain iconic, did you see the video David Beckham posted from Victoria’s 50th last week?

Like every other Millennial, I’d been a fan of the Spice Girls from Wannabe right through to Viva Forever. Even after that, I followed Vicky Becks closely, wondering what her next big break would be. She published Learning to Fly in the early 2000s and even though I wasn’t big on reading, as a teenager, I made it through that autobiography cover-to-cover. Around the same time, she released her first solo album. You guessed it, I bought the CD.

Today, I can’t say I’m that big a fan of hers (or anyone else for that matter), but I’m not going to lie, I’ve been keeping tabs particularly on Victoria Beckham -the Fashion Designer. I low key think this is who she was supposed to be all along. Everything prior to that, was just a journey she needed to experience to arrive exactly where she is now.

Earlier this week, coinciding with their 40th anniversary, Mango released their collaboration with Victoria Beckham. The 55 piece collection covering womenswear, jewelry and footwear was inspired by La Piscine, a 1969 summertime film starring Jane Birkin (the collaboration video even shows the models jumping into a pool). Specifically, parallels are drawn between Jane Birkin’s character’s ease, natural beauty, femininity, and “a real sense of freedom”.

The collection is très chic with feminine and macho inspired looks all very much wearable. The vibes are more Spring than Summer, either way, VB and MNG kept it graceful, elegant, sophisticated. The collaboration was really a match made in style heaven given that both brands are so similar (save for the price point). It’s more of a surprise that this wasn’t done earlier.

Good Luck getting anything in stock though, from what I hear, items sold out in hours. Below are some of my favourite pieces from the collection.

Were you lucky enough to get your hands on any pieces? Let me know, would be great to hear your thoughts on the quality. I don’t doubt that it would be anything short of exceptional.

Komole Kandids Series 2

*WARNING: This post is highly opinionated. In the event that your view differs from mine, feel free to express yourself in the comments section*

House of Deola is in a class of its own. Yes, I said it and I refuse to take it back! I’m yet to master the art of making culture contemporary, so when I see a designer that fuses the two so effortlessly, elegantly, beautifully, naturally…. I go GaGa! I actually lose it. Staring uncontrollably, drooling helplessly, wide eyed in amusement. It’s a mix between a kid in a candy store and a man that has found that woman that holds his “mumu” button, lol.

Let’s dig into the detail shall we??

One word: Intricacy.

There’s a resonating theme with each piece in the Komole Kandids Series 2. You know the link that new designers fail to grasp…. The underlying theme that undoubtedly links one piece to the next in a beautiful harmony… yeah, that’s the one! There’s beading, there are cut-outs, beautiful prints, appliques… gosh, it’s got the works!

Some background: Research.

Does anyone bother studying anymore? I don’t just mean reading. Studying, absorbing, understanding. House of Deola clearly put in the hours. I understand that over 12 years of research went into the development of the lace and now they weave the fabric themselves. Fantastic!

The Experience: Royalty.

You know when you look so good you’re gliding on air. When the world gazes at you in awe because you’re mingling with the gods. When your smile radiates from the inside at the slightest twitch of your lips. Yeah… that’s what I imagine the Komole Kandids Series 2 feels like. Can’t believe the target audience is wedding guests.

The Styling: Minimal.

When your clothes do all the talking, it’s best to keep the styling simple. Sleek low buns and perfectly pleated geles for the win.

Do I need really need to explicitly state that I love this collection? Or did my write up justify this already? LOL

“Florals… For Spring..? Groundbreaking”

I first set my eyes on Carolina Herrera’s SS15 look on Instagram and I sincerely thought it was breathtaking.

I’ve watched The Devil Wears Prada too many times to know that florals for spring is so cliché! I mean, it requires little to no mental activity and so it’s generally a trend that should be avoided (in my opinion). But in her SS15 collection, Carolina Herrera has successfully juxtaposed a supposedly trite floral print on a futuristic and fresh canvas.

The collection seems to be a modern day musing of the renowned Georgia O’keeffe depicting feminism in all her glory as the crisp look remains somewhat bridal.

I know there’s a lot more to see from this years New York Fashion Week but I can’t help but get ahead of myself and deem CH’s collection my favourite look of the season.

Hope you like as much as I do……

Isn’t this mosaic look just divine???

Ps: I love the Devil wears Prada, so had to use the line from the movie…  “Florals… for Spring…? Groundbreaking” LOL

PPs: It’s not hard to make out my style… Classic. Elegant. Clean. Simple.

Michael Kors “Miranda”

If ever there was one thing I disliked about the Michael Kors brand, it would have to be the bags! I could never relate to how bland and (in my humble opinion,) tacky his designs were. The “MK” embossed/printed on the mediocre shaped bags did not (by a long shot) tickle my fancy and like the Louis’ and Gucci’s of this world, I swore I’d never own a Michael Kors bag. All of this of course, was well before the conception of Miranda.

Now Miranda is quite the sight for sore eyes. Her poise, her elegance, her structure….. wonderfully stunning. She’s brings a clean, refreshing sense of class to the MK bag collection without rubbing it right in your face. Perhaps she could even be mistaken for a Celine but who cares? You could be robed in rags from head to toe but with the clutch of the Miranda, all will be forgiven in the judgmental world of Fashion!

Ps. Happy Easter Bonitas!!!!!

Passion for Posen

It’s Valentine’s day and I haven’t even wished my readers a Happy New Year. It wasn’t until the day before yesterday when Taiwo whatsapped me saying (and I quote) “You haven’t blogged since xmas day. Shame on you!” that it dawned on me…. Not only have I begun my 2013 right in the heart of indolence, but I have also dived right into the pit of underperformance. On that note, Happy New Year ever-faithful readers!!!! And a Happy Valentine’s day too! May this year eradicate sloth and banish underperformance. On the contrary, may it be filled with rainbows, butterflies and the optimism they pose.

Now kick-starting 2013…..

It’s Valentine’s day and for the first time in about 3/4years I am single. That’s okay though because this year, I’m lusting over something magical; right out of this world (in my humble opinion anyway). It’s Zac Posen’s pre-fall 2013 collection. I discovered an item from the collection on instagram (you can follow me/Taiwo if you want @Tadera) and I have fallen head over heels; heart over head (I just made that up! lol). Consequently, I have decided to share my love of the moment with you. Hope you appreciate the structured art and dramatic elegance accompanied in each piece….

Ps: There have been Fashion Nights Out for so many weeks now! My weekends are officially dedicated to Whitespace. Hope to see you there every weekend till it’s over!

Toshade Christmas…

Christmas is my favourite time of the year. Personally, it beats Easter, the Summer and yes, it even beats Birthdays! Unfortunately, this Christmas will differ from the norm as my family won’t be together (*wails*) nevertheless, we’ll celebrate Jesus and the joy of Christmas shan’t be lost.

As Christmas shopping should be in full swing, it dawned on me that there couldn’t be a better time to market TOSHADE jewellery. Therefore, as you can see below, I have uploaded pictures of some of my favourite pieces from TOSHADE…. Beaded creativity for the simple yet stylish!

MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week IV

Saturday Night sealed the deal. It was the cherry on top. The icing on the cake. Call it what you will, it was fabulous! Lanre Da Silva Ajayi (LDA) was the final Nigerian female designer on the runway and her show was spectacular. In her true fashion, her collection was wonderfully detailed and very well constructed. Her combination of local and foreign fabrics is always a winner in my humble opinion, and to top it all off, her Nigerian playlist enhanced the ambiance, with the entire audience either on their feet or bopping heads to the beat. Below are a few pictures from her collection as well as that of Emmy Collins, I hope you like….
