Attention To Detail

It’s all about dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s. It’s all about dressing to the tea’s and maybe even the nine’s. It’s all about being thorough and never overlooking details because let’s face it, the little things do make a huge difference.

How much attention do you pay to the little things?

Both TopShop

Nails Inc Copacabana. My Mum made the beads, I made the friendship bracelet.

Wura obtains whatever she can from whoever she comes across. No one is spared!

The button fell off so had to improvise. Cause the brooch (Accessorize) is so pretty had to have my hair up (but I’d have done that anyway wouldn’t I?).

Ps: I’m going to a wedding on Saturday. Haven’t been for a wedding in over a year. If you’re Nigerian, you’ll understand why this is weird. Lol.

Dammi

After yet another crazy day at General CD- Community Development (an NYSC requirement), I was glad to be going home and catching up with an old friend.

Dammi, my friend from Aston, is in Nigeria for a fortnight and seeing as this is only her second time here, I decided to have her over for some of Lagos’ best sharwama and Glover Court suya! We spoke about Fashion, Uni, NYSC and the need for her to indulge her taste buds in a glass of Nigeria’s favourite drink- Chapman before, we decided to mock about with my SLR. Below are a few pictures from our fun shoot!

Ps: I don’t normally walk around barefoot (especially not outside), but last week a friend made it sound like a natural pedicure and so I decided I’d give it a go just this once. Lol.

Pps: If I plan on making it to today’s LPM I’d better leave my house soon. But my bed is just so comfortable *Sigh*

Wura’s Ray Bans

Ray Bans have got to be the ultimate Sunglasses. There’s a certain smugness that comes with owning a pair of Ray B’s. Recently, my Mum came across my Dad’s Ray Bans from back in the day and she headed straight for my room to deliver the vintage goodies. To my detriment, Wura was quick to intercept and seeing as I claimed the last pair found, it was only just that I let her have these ones. Below are pictures of Wura in her Vintage Ray B’s. There’s something about the pearls and Peter Pan collar that seal the deal on this look. Love it!

Ps: When my Dad saw the Ray Bans and we asked what he thought about rocking them today, his reply was “It looks like a blind man’s glasses” *Smh*

African Crown

It’s amazing how often we (black) girls transform our looks. Today you could have a long, Brazilian wavy weave; tomorrow, box braids and the day after a full grown afro. You may remember from my post, The Come Back: Old School, that I Co Washed my hair for the first time. This was the first stage of my transition, seeing as I’ve decided to go Natural, without braving the Big Chop (BC).

As I go through my journey of African hair discovery, I’ve decided to keep you all updated and let you know how I manage my thick, full, hard, jet black, afro hair. It will be tough, it will be a challenge, it will drive me crazy, but I’m determined to go natural regardless. The ‘fro may last a month, it may last a year, or I may keep it for my lifetime I haven’t quite decided yet. Regardless I’ve decided to embrace my African side, the ‘fro, the gap and what else it may throw my way. Here are pictures 6months into my transition……

Ps: I just realised I haven’t blogged about NYSC camp! Need to rectify that as soon as I can.

Pps: Sinmi from House 38 is making me a conditioner which I’m uber excited about 😀 In the mean time check out her blog here: http://willwearthis.com/

Schon Afrique: The Royal Collection

Last November, I was invited to the Majin fashion show featuring not only ‘The Royal Collection’ by Folake Majin, but also ‘The Breathless Expression Collection’ by Miss Majin and ‘The Circle Revolution Collection’ by GM4FM (Gogo Majin for Folake Majin).

As expected, the invitations were that which summoned queens and the location was the prestigious Civic Centre notifying us of the glamour surrounding this event.

Upon revealing each collection, we could see that the Majin’s had something in common, a dignified, gracious style very well suited to their target market.

Below are some of my favourite pieces from the collection….

Tiwa Savage looking stunning in House 38

Shame I couldn’t stay to the end 😦

Ps: This morning even my mother agreed that I was a major slacker seeing as I was just uploading this post 😦

Pps: My mum won a BlackBerry Playbook at the show, however, she left early and so wasn’t there to claim her prize *Rme*

WimBiz

Last November, I was invited to attend the 10th annual Women in Management and Business (WimBiz) Conference and indeed it was an empowering three days.

Women of all parts of Nigeria and beyond gathered to listen to the handful of catalysts that were invited to talk to us, but I was particularly impressed with Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi’s speech.

Clearly a no-nonsense, proud and very well spoken African woman; she kicked off with Maya Angelou’s ‘Phenomenal Woman’. With this, she gripped the entire audience and we were interested. She went on to talk about social justice and the passion involved in being a change agent and by the time she was done, she had us all giving her a standing ovation.

Over the first two days, the invited speakers included Toyosi Akerele (who was extremely motivational), Bolanle Austen-Peters of Terra Kulture and Uche Eze of Bella Naija (who managed to make Nicki Minaj and Rihanna sound inspirational lol). On the third day was a dinner which I was unable to attend seeing as I was dateless 😦 my family members tend to shy away from such and a certain Mr wasn’t in the country. Yes, I was bummed seeing as I had my House 38 dress all good to go and I was looking forward to getting my make up done by House of Tara… *sigh*

Regardless, the entire event was without a doubt a success and I’m pretty certain everyone took something of value with them. Mrs Zaccheus (the former chairperson of WimBiz) through the years has definitely been inspirational, not just through WimBiz, but also as an individual.

This was me at the end of the 2nd day. I really need to give this top a rest, but as I said in my previous post, I wear my clothes till they are used and abused!!! This isn’t the last of the tangerine dream! Lol

My Mum and Mrs Zaccheus.

Ps: I’m STILL bummed that I missed the last days event.

Pps: If you’ve never been for a WimBiz event (and can afford to go for one), I strongly suggest you do. It urges one to go above and beyond. It’s open to men too so guys, don’t feel intimidated!

Minty Vanilla

Gok Wan would love my wardrobe. Like he suggests, I only have about 25 key pieces that I work with daily. No item in my wardrobe goes unpunished; they are all used and abused until they are completely violated and no longer befitting for public viewing.

Sunday afternoon was an impromptu lunch with the girls and seeing as we were headed to Café Royal, I decided on a gelato inspired outfit. It began with a scoop of plain vanilla chinos; I then layered it with a minty flavoured blouse and topped it off with a sprinkling of gold dust in the form of my braided necklace.

Going down quite the treat, I thought I’d rough it up a little with acid stained walls as the background to my amateur shoot. Hope you like…..

Chinos: UniQlo

Blouse: Mango

Necklace: FCUK (ASOS)

Ps: That morning, I had on a black chiffon Iro and Bubba which I’m looking forward to blogging about .

Pps: Amazing things are happening. I’m excited!
