Maju

I’ve never had the largest collection of bags notwithstanding; I’ve always been the biggest fan. It could be leather or raffia; an envelope clutch or a chain-strapped satchel; and it could be handmade or machine manufactured. I really didn’t care, as long as it was a bag; there was a good chance that it would tickle my fancy.

Recently, I was invited to the launch of Maju bags at Chase Mall, VI and for a person as well disciplined as I am; it was a shock that resistance played no role in my subconscious. I attended the opening with Taiwo (now that is a shock in itself) and neither one of us left empty handed.

The store was ridiculously small but you know what they say, “Good things come in small packages” and this was no different. Every square inch of the tiny store was occupied with beautifully handcrafted bags and being the patriot I am, I was proud to find this in Nigeria.

Below are a few pictures of what they had in store.

Ps: The next give away is ready, and I’m excited 🙂

Pps: Even the Sun sets in Paradise

And the winner is…

Thanks so much to everyone that participated in my Giveaway. I have used Random.org to generate a winner and excluded ‘Ola F’ from the competition seeing as she’s my sister. As there were 7 comments (that qualified for the giveaway), I put in a maximum number of 7 and the Result was ‘7’ concluding on Sumbo as the winner.

Congratulations Sumbo, your House 38 blouse will be on it’s way to you shortly.

Second giveaway will be a one of a kind necklace which I have designed and am having Toshade make for it me.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone.

Ps: I’ve got my ‘fro out today. Whoop!

I simply remember my favourite things…

“Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
Silver white winters that melt into springs,
These are a few of my favourite things……” Maria ‘Sound of Music’

Call me weird (only if you must), but there are a few items I own that always seem to fix a smile on my face. Most of these consist of my bag contents and I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a subconscious act of carrying ‘a ray of sunshine’ with me wherever I go.

Vaseline ‘Creme Brule’: What can I say….. it’s Limited Edition!

L’Occitane cherry blossom hand cream: It’s my delicate heaven only it’s in a tube.

Mint Green Barry M nail polish: It draws a subtle type of attention, the kind I’m all about.

Gucci Guilty: That scent is a post for another day. It makes me smell like a million bucks!

Tea forte: Are you pronouncing it correctly? If you are you’ll have the smile I’m talking about…. the twinkle in your eye. *FYI I don’t even drink tea. Lol*

Primark across the body bag: It looks expensive, except it was only £6!!!!

Accessorize necklace: That necklace makes rags feel like gold.

MAC mascara: I ran out of mascara in December and my Mum got me this tube. It made my month!

Ps: I’m heart broken by the Dana plane crash of the 3rd of June, 2012. I cannot believe that planes still crash in 2012. RIP to those that lost their lives. May their souls rest in perfect peace.

**Anniversary GIVEAWAY**

They say idle hands are the Devil’s workshop and so a year ago, when I was through with exams and seeking a fulfilling way to occupy my new found freedom, I started a Fashion Blog. To celebrate my blogs first anniversary, I have decided to hold my first GIVEAWAY.

Up for grabs is one item that summarize my fashion and encapsulate my style:

HOUSE 38 blouse.

This seemingly simple blouse materializes my personality from the sequin embellished collar to the unsuspecting drop hemline. The chiffon feel is best suited for the easy, breezy, laid-back days, while the red buttons add an understated pop. Available only in a British size 8/10 (I’m not too sure, I got rid of the tag), all you need to do is post a comment along with your name and email address. Feel free to enter as many times as you want. The deadline for entries is the 6th of June 2012, after which I will no longer accept entries. Unfortunately, I’m only able to ship within Lagos and to the UK.

*Necklace not included*

xXx

Ps: Don’t forget to leave your name and email address

PPs: The winner will be chosen using a random generator

PPPs: I slipped today at work and came crashing down flat on the tiled floors of the 17th floor. It was an ugly sight and hurt my tooshie 😦 Luckily, I had a ponytail to cushion my head 🙂

Funlayo Deri: Into The Contrast

Funlayo Deri’s ‘into the contrast’ is unquestionably one of my favourite collections this season. My preppy state of mind is very much aligned with her well constructed structures and the dream-like flows in a number of her modishly beautiful pieces hint at a level of grace I’ve only ever dreamed of. Each strip of material is delicately assembled in line with the art of architecture. Here’s the press release on the wisely themed ‘into the contrast’:

“Inspiration for the Funlayo Deri Spring/Summer 2012 collection comes from contemporary architectural structures. Elements of rigid, edgy structures were combined, then transformed to softer, fluid lines and placed in ways which complement the female form. The juxtaposition of different silhouettes, structures, fabrics and textures was used to enhance the clarity of each design.”

Here are my favourite pieces from the collection:

Ps: This was sent to me ages ago, however my lack of organisation has been an obstacle in my progress. I shall address that promply.

The Big Chop: Ours By Juliada

Over the Easter break, I unraveled my unsightly month old twists and decided I’d give my ‘fro a break. It’s been tied up constantly since I arrived in Lagos last August and I figured it was time to give it a bit of a rest.

I usually co-wash my hair as I hear it’s good for afros, but it’s been so long since I gave it what I’d deem a good wash and so I purchased Organic Shampoo from Ours By Juliada. Not only is this shampoo 100% natural (just like my hair) but it lacks sulphate which is considered harsh for the hair and said to cause skin irritation. Ours By Juliada’s Organic shampoo although really liquidy and apparently light, lathered very well and left my hair without a trace of dandruff which was excellent. Now the packaging was not quite my viewing pleasure, I’m sure you’ll agree, but the product itself was definitely a winner and I just might be purchasing it again.

In the mean time here’s a lame attempt at a Mohawk with my 4 inch (or less) afro, in phase two of my natural journey. In case you’re wondering, phase one was the transition, lol.

Don’t take my silly poses seriously. I mess around a lot.

xXx

Ps: I’ve got Neriah Naturals Deep Conditioner and Ours by Juliada Shampoo next up to find another brand for hairspray. And they say you can’t get any products in Nigeria! HA!
