“You Can’t Eat Beauty”

I’m a little behind, I know, but I just spotted this post on Beautifully Nappy. For technical (or/and regional) reasons, I was unable to reblog the video, so I embedded it in my post instead.

If you aren’t already in love with Miss Nyong’o, this is guaranteed to make you fall head over heels.

Please watch…….

Got 7 Minutes?

As you know, I’ve been working on my Body, Mind and Spirit and I get the feeling that this is going to shape the direction of Bonita Valli this year.

I recently downloaded an app called ‘7 minute workout’ and I love it so much, that not only have I been preaching it to anyone that will listen, but I’ve actually been doing this workout about 3 times a week which is probably more exercise than I ever did last year.

7 minutes is a series of 12 exercises that work the entire body allowing for maximum intensity in a short period of time. They appear very easy upon initial examination until you actually start each of the 12 workouts. Each workout is 30 seconds and separated by an equivalent 30 second break.

What I love most about this is the convenience (you can do it at home and the maximum requirement is a chair)! Below is a break down of each of the exercises….

Who needs a gym when you’ve got 7 minutes?

Ps. I also started playing Tennis, I’m learning how to serve now which is the greatest challenge!

The Challenge

It’s my hundredth post!

Yes, you read that right, a blogger as lazy as myself made it to not 10, but 100 posts!

WARNING!! *Speech mode*

“I’d just like to start off by thanking God-thank you Jesus, my readers-you guys rock!! My family… I love you guys!!” Lol. Enough goofing around.

In honour of my hundredth post, I would like to set everyone a challenge which my sister, Wura, sent to our family chat this morning. For all of 5 minutes, it got me trying to be a better person, let’s hope it works out better for you guys. Here’s the Challenge…

The Challenge

My attempt at this challenge is in line with working on my Spirit. I’ll have to make a more conscious effort though, I’ve already said a truck load of horrible things to and about people today and it’s just 2pm. Like my Mum said “It might be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for me to make it through this challenge”.

Good luck with this one Bonitas!

Ps: I will be continuing my 5 days 5 blogs later this week. As I referenced Rosie Londoner, I realised I never actually completed that challenge. Lol

Pps: Beauty is on the inside.

Shellac Homes (Get it….? Lol)

My love for shellac died about as quickly as my manicure lasted- 8 days! My nails grew out quicker than I’d ever realised leaving an unattractive gap between my cuticle and my manicure. Like that wasn’t bad enough, I got the highly unattractive bubbles that occur if a shellac manicure isn’t done properly (thank you Apples & Oranges!).

Everyone knows how much I detest the unkempt look and seeing as I could never make it to the salon during the week (I work crazy hours), I got to googling shellac removal at home! Here’s how it’s done:

Tools:

1. Nail buffer
2. Orange/cuticle stick
3. Nail polish remover (or as much acetone as you can possible get in a bottle)
4. Cotton pads/wool
5. Foil paper
6. Hand lotion and Tea Tree Oil

Step 1: Using the nail buffer, file down the gel layer of your shellac manicure until you achieve a matte finish (was so tempted to keep the matte look)

Step 2: Soak cotton cotton pads in nail polish remover and wrap around each nail using the foil as a seal (be careful, the nail polish starts to drip everywhere)

Step 3: Set your timer for 10 mins. I’d suggest keeping one hand free to better manage a messy situation

Step 4: Remove the foil paper. At this stage, the shellac should be cracking/peeling off. Otherwise, slip your nails back in the foil for another 5mins

Step 5: using an orange stick (or cuticle remover in my case) peel off the shellac polish and buffer down nails for a smooth finish

Step 6: wash your hands and apply hand lotion and tea tree oil. Acetone drys out the nails and skin

I was still in the mood for pampering and so decided to use my new OPI texture effect duo (colour: My Current Crush). It’s a liquid sand and so dries with a matte/glitter/sandy finish. The application only requires one base coat and two coats of the liquid sand. No top coat. Amazing!

Ps: Thank you Ilobe for my new nail polish! Thank you Solape for my Orogold nail kit!

PPs: I did mention, I love nail polish right? and I love pampering! Perfect combination.

Roosevelt, Prince Charming

I was in Grenoble last October when I spotted a Cambridge Satchel on my fellow nappy lover Esione of Beautifully Nappy. This was by no means the first time I’d set eyes on a Cambridge Satchel but it was the first time that I’d REALLY considered owning one.

The Cambridge satchel is very well put together. He exudes a dapper radiance and preppy character. With his matte finish and clean cut, he woos with his every stride. Primed with a subdued elegance, it’s impossible to imitate the snobbish character of the Cambridge Satchel and resultantly, I purchased one.

I call my Cambridge Satchel Roosevelt simply because it strikes me as a polished, well spoken gentleman with a bit of a hidden agenda. FDR maybe? I can’t say really. He reminds me of Chuck Bass only he’s rich in oxblood as opposed to the sheen of patent leather. Roosevelt has become my everyday Prince Charming. He was well worth every penny!

Ps: I’m quite pleased with myself. I’m on a roll with my blogging!

PPs: In line with my BMS, I’ve downloaded ‘7 minute workout’. I love the app and strongly recommend it if you’re interested in light exercise for your body.

Eugene

Remember my post The Spider King’s Daughter? Well, lo and behold, I spotted the object of my desire at Terra Kulture last Tuesday and just HAD to buy. I was going to give her a Nigerian name seeing as she’s the Nigerian interpretation of the Pandora, but Taiwo classed that too cliche and so we went with Eugene. Uncommon yet precious.

No. She’s no Charlotte Olympia, but she sure as hell will do! Hope you like as much as I do.

Ps: Eugene comes with two ankara purses AND a chain strap. Can you say BARGAIN?

PPs: Does anyone know the designer?

PPs: Have you spotted my shellac nails? I’m thinking I should do a post on them.

New Year, New You?

I’ve always thought of that phrase as cliche… “New Year New You”! I refuse/d to believe there could/can be a new you every. single. year. But then upon discussion with a friend, I came to realize that there’s no need to knock anyone’s spirit. If the start of a new year signifies another attempt at being a better person, by all means spread your wings and fly!

On that note Happy New Year Everyone! This year, I’ve decided to hop on the bandwagon and get aligned some new year’s resolutions. Aside from the usual career aspirations, I’ve decided to try and live a little healthier. The aim is to look better, feel better and live better. This year, I’m working on my B.M.S- Body, Mind and Spirit.

Body–  I’m a lazy person if not intellectually, then at least physically. My idea of a good workout is heels on a Monday morning (gotta work those pins) and laughter on a Friday evening (so necessary for my abs). But it’s 2014 and so I’ve taken up tennis. So far I’ve been playing every other week and it must be said that I am a legend in the making. LOL.

I’ve also decided to work a little bit harder on my skin (my face in particular) and so I’m making it a habit to wash my face every evening and exfoliate or use a mask once a week. Slow but steady progress I say.

DSC_0859

Mind– I believe in the power of positive thinking, I believe in self-development and I’m working on self-discipline. It’s all self explanatory really, but I’m going to start with the little things. Setting my alarm for 6:30 and actually getting up at 6:30 as opposed to 7:00 is an excellent start.

I also recently downloaded Lumosity and I’m loving it. It works on my brain performance particularly speed, memory and attention and it takes up little to no time every day.

Spirit– This year, the dream is to pray more, meditate on the word more and walk in faith. Heaven is the goal after all and so I will be dedicating some minutes to God everyday. Baby steps will eventually translate to a leap of faith!

What are your resolutions this year?

xXx

P.S I had shellac nails done yesterday for the first time ever. I’m in Love!!! Perhaps I’ll add a little bit of pampering to my New Year’s Resolutions 🙂
